Lymphedema
Lymphedema is a condition that involves the build-up of fluid within the lymph system. This can happen if and when the lymph system has been damaged or somehow blocked. When lymph nodes cannot transfer fluid throughout the lymphatic network, this leads to fluid retention in various parts of the body. Lymphedema is most apparent when fluid builds up in areas like the calves and ankles, though fluid build-up can appear in virtually any part of the body. Lymphedema is a chronic condition and, if left untreated, can lead to severe symptoms and even death.
